The Siren is a monster and the main villain of the ninth episode, "Shriek from Beyond", featured in the first season of the animated series, Martin Mystery.
Role in the episode[]
The Siren is a mythological creature part-woman, part-bird and part-mermaid, which attracts fishermen with her beautiful and seductive singing, leading them to their deaths.
In the episode Shriek from Beyond, the Siren sings in a bar in a small village somewhere in Norway. And with her magnificent voice, she attracts many men that heard her, including Martin and Java. When the men expect less because they are hypnotized, the Siren begins to sing so loud that the bar starts to be destroyed. But by chance, Diana uses the U-Shield on Martin's U-Watch to protect Martin, Java and the other men that were hypnotized.
Nevertheless, Martin, Diana and Java soon discover that the Siren doesn't want to hurt innocent people, but to take revenge on Rolf, who fell in love with her but neglected her fifty years ago and is hiding in the sewers of the small village after he froze the Siren in an ice block in his fishing vessel and left her on an iceberg, only for her to be free when the ship of sailors Sven and Olaf crashed into the iceberg she was froze in.
In the end, the gang manages to capture the Siren. However, she does not forgive Rolf after he sincerely apologized for his negligence, but M.O.M is confident that some male monsters in the Center's inter-species dating program will heal her broken heart.
She would later be seen briefly in her cell In the episode Beast from Within while a Center guard flips through the security cameras of the cells.
Background[]
Personality[]
The Siren is, originally, benevolent and even fell in love with Rolf, a sailor in Norway. However, when he soon neglected and left her, she became vengeful, vowing to destroy him for his betrayal. After having been trapped in an iceberg for fifty years, she becomes even more bitter and decides to destroy not only Rolf, but also his entire hometown. She has average human-level intelligence.
Physical Appearance[]
The Siren's appearance is a slender beautiful human being with flawless pale skin, long blue hair, blue eyes, and is barefooted, but she also wears a white feathered dress.
In her true form, she is a pterodactyl-like creature with deadly eagle-like talons and claws, bat-like wings, a dragon/lizard like tail, and a grey beak with fangs. She retains her eye color and her hair in this form.
Powers and Abilities[]
The Siren is a supernatural creature with all the stereotypical powers of the mythological siren. She more closely resembles the depiction of sirens from Ancient Greek beliefs, particularly the ones from the myth of Odysseus. A testament of the Siren's might is how she left an entire town in ruins while she is on a rampage. During the episode, she displays the following powers:
- Immortality: Given the fact that the Siren survived half a century frozen in an iceberg, it is possible that she is in fact immortal. Either that or she has a superhuman level of endurance and durability.
- Hypnotic Singing: Her most powerful weapon is her voice. By singing, she can hypnotize men and make them do whatever she wished. She is even able to make Martin and Java step over a cliff. However, this power could be negated by blocking a man's ears completely.
- Sonic Shrieks: She also uses her voice in a more offensive manner. The Siren produces destructive and deadly sonic shrieks that are powerful enough to bring down an entire building or cause a massive cave-in. She seems to have a great deal of control over this power, being able to hit precise targets such as a mast or a support beam. This is her main method of attacking.
- Shapeshifting: The Siren can alternate between a human form and a monstrous bird-like form. Though while being more savage in this form, she can still speak.
- Flight: In her bird-like form, she can fly at great speed and with great agility, able to perform complicated maneuvers while flying. She could reach very high altitudes as well like normal birds of prey.
- Talons: In her true form, she possesses large deadly eagle-like talons on her hands and feet. They are formidable weapons and could easily slice through a grappling cable line.
